REN Skin Care to the Rescue
I recently contacted REN Skin Care after reading some pretty fantastic facts about their products. I wished to sample their Calendula and Arctic Blackcurrant Seed Cleansing Milk Wash for Sensitive Skin (catching my breath). Not only did I receive the sample but enclosed was a sweet hand written note (luv it).
For me, the product was a bit too milky for my complexion but my skin felt soft and moisturized and the fragrance was lovely. The Milk cleanser is not for folks who prefer that squeaky clean face. I myself am trying to gravitate away from that “stripped” feeling. I did notice that if the cleanser touched my lips it made them feel funny…not numb just funny. Anyone have any insight on that?
Anyway, some of the main reasons I chose REN was for their statement, exclusion of harsh chemicals and environmental awareness. Instead of listing all the ingredients (because that would take forever and probably bore you) I’ll just list a couple that stood out for me.
They Just Say No To:
- Synthetic Fragrances/Colors
- Petrochemicals
- Sulfate
- No animal products or animal testing
- Parabens
- Irritants. I take this as anything ending in “col” like glycols and diglycols (propylene glycol)
- Nitrates
- Aluminum/Alumina
Smart Skin Care gives you a list of some of these and why they are harmful as well as Thomko Petro Chemicals.
Their environmental contributions include; using recyclable materials and packaging and donating a minimum of %2.5 of their profit to campaigns that promote a better environment. Their science revolves around “bio active technology” which from what I understand inhibits the skins natural ability to repair and protect itself. One other highlight of greatness, REN does NOT test on the furries or furless. OK, moving on.
It’s obvious that REN is not the cheapest product out there. Prices range from about $11-80, most cleansers are $40-50…which I don’t think is that bad. It all depends on what you are willing to spend, cheaper cleanser do the job but may not have the “cleanest” ingredient list.
I’m open to anything as long as it’s not outrageous like using pig scrotum for skin rejuvenation at $200 a pop. With that said do your research and really investigate the companies that are trying to work with the earth not against her.
