Organic Cat Litters worth Talking About

Swheat ScoopI have a cat, his name is Simon and he does not like drawrings. He likes to claw my furniture and beg for food. Honestly I’ve never seen a cat beg like a dog but he seems to pull it off quite well. He also drinks water as if there is no tomorrow. So with water comes litter box use and with that comes the search for a decent clumping litter that is easy on the environment.

One day during one of my trip to Target I stumbled upon Swheat Scoop Litter. The price was under $10 for a 13.5 lb box and I liked what I read.

  • 100% Biodegradable
  • 100% Compostable (Re-use for gardens, no-vegetable, or gardens)
  • Renewable Source (made from naturally processed, non-food grade wheat grown in the states)

Two of the major complaints I have read about Swheat is the dust kick up which I’ve never had a problem with and the litter sticking to the bottom of the pan. The Swheat site actually offers tips on handling that. I ended up purchasing a littler box liner that only added to the problem so I ditched it. I must empty the box at least once a day or it will be quite the chore to get up.

LitterAnother alternative would be The World’s Best Cat Litter which has been compared to Swheat as also very earth conscious, flushable and easier to manage without the “dust” factor. I believe most PETSMART’s carry it. I think I may venture down that road but until then I think Swheat deserves two thumbs up!

I tried using Swheat scoop for my kitty on at least three different occasions. Each and every time, without fail, he would eliminate on the floor right next to the litter box rather than step on the Swheat Scoop in his box. Same thing with my sister’s cat. I think it is a great product, but if your cat won’t accept it, then it doesn’t work for your household. What a shame.

    Hi Amy,

My mom sometimes has the same issue with just using plain litter BUT her cat Lila is a bit over weight and I think the litter box is too small for her so she just does it where she feels comfortable which is where she smells her scent but it’s not exactly in the box. I wonder if you have an open litter box or if it’s covered? That may make a difference but ya know every cat won’t like the best litter for the environment :)
