Olivella Skin Care: Olive Oil Soap and Moisturizer

Olivella Olive Oil Skin Care CollectionWhen my fellow co-worker introduced the idea of using olive oil as a moisturizer I thought she must be joking….olive oil? I took into consideration her Greek heritage and decided those Greeks knew how to use their natural resources.

The more I researched the more excited I became. I’m not sure about everyone else but reading the ingredients label on every bottle of lotion in Whole Foods just to make sure I wasn’t poisoning myself was getting old. So here are the results of my online stumbling:

Olivella Virgin Olive Oil Face & Body Liquid Soap (16.9fl oz)

Olivella Olive Oil SoapHypoallergenic, Vegetable based…great amount for your buck if you can put up with the smell. It’s not that the smell is unbearable but it’s different. When I first used this product I thought Wow, smells weird but I like it…until I read the ingredients list and saw Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate. Apparently this is used for the “lather effect”.

I’m not sure how much is in this particular product so it’s really a personal decision. An alternative that I find just as nice is the Pure Olive Oil Bar Soap 8oz. by Kiss My Face.

Olivella All Natural Virgin Olive Oil Moisturizer All Skin Types (1.69 fl oz)

Olivella Olive Oil MoisturizerOK, here we go! This product actually has ingredients that I’m ok with!! I can sleep soundly knowing that what I’m putting on my skin is not doing any dirty work to my innards.

It’s aroma is pleasant and it comes in a very nifty bottle but…and it’s a huge BUT…I can just as easily pick up a nice bottle of Extra Virgin at the local market that will work the same magic.

The only problem I found with that was the packaging…not your typical easy to use bottle. I think if you found a plastic bottle that you could transfer the store bought stuff into that would work just as well, a bit easier on the wallet too!
