Honestly Delicious Honest Tea

Is it possible to get my hands on a tea that doesn’t taste like crap, is fair trade and organic?  Yes, yes and yesssss.  I picked up Honest Tea’s Pomegranate Red Tea with Goji Berry months ago and have been unapologetically hooked ever since.

Seth Goldman and Barry Nalebluff who launched this one of a kind company in February of 1998 have been unstoppable in providing tea lovers with organic/fair trade greatness.  Seth began making tea in his kitchen and soon brought it to the Whole Foods Market.  Their time line can tell their story better than I can type it so feel free to check it out.

Today, all 12 flavors are certified organic including 5 of their tea bag varieties and 7 flavors are Fair Trade.  They started with the classic glass bottle and have now expanded to Honest Ade (thirst quencher), Honest Kids (pouches) and Honest Tea (PETplastic).

I’m a fan of their glass bottles for many reasons. I enjoy collecting them, naming them and eventually making little dresses for them.  They’re also good for a nice water refill. Their plastic bottles and tea pouches are made of PET plastic which is fully recyclable, phthalate free and contains no Bisphenol or BPA.

Along with watching their carbon footprint they also stand behind two causes:

Community Green teaming up with City Year, a group focused on educating and inspiring youth to become more involved in community service and leadership.

First Nation-Together with I’tchick Herb, a woman-owned company based on the Crow reservation in Montana they help boost the 67% unemployment rate community by using their peppermint.

One last bit of tea info before I peace out are their caps.  Every bottle cap has it’s own little saying or quote.   I’ve even started a little collection to pull from if I’m in need of a literary pick me up.

I used to raise a brow at the bottled tea selection wondering [insert thought bubble] “will this taste like tea or more like a syrup mixed with water?”  In all honesty, those brow raising days are over.  Happy Tasting :)
