Earth 911 and Staples- Solving Your Recycling Needs
The attempt to save my very old, very sad laptop computer has been made. It now sits on my desk…broken. I have no choice but to look at it, wondering what to do. I must recycle it, but where? I prefer a drop-off, somewhere local.
So during my free time this morning I found Earth911. This may be old hat for some folks but I was tickled pink to find them. Earth911 is all about recycling and keeping us informed on what steps we can take to lessen the waste. To find a recycling center all you have to do is enter your zip code and the item you wish to recycle, in my case it was “electronics”.
Seconds later a list of 15 locations popped up, Staples being one of them. After giving them a call to confirm this information the young man also informed me of a $10 fee for each computer, laptops included.
Staples has been a leader in environmental awareness for businesses and consumers alike. Here is one of the ways Staples is becoming greener by the minute.
“At the end of fiscal year 2006, we were offering more than 2,900 active products across all of our sales channels containing some amount of post–consumer recycled content. We seek to develop or source new products that incorporate other environmental attributes beyond recycled content, including products using eco–friendly raw materials such as certified sustainable wood fibers and products that use less energy to operate.” -Staples.com

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea. Only wish I read this earlier when I wasn’t sure where to find recycling centers in my area for certain items.
