Before You Blame Your Deodorant, Take a Look at Your Diet

Deo

The search for a good organic/hippy deo is like trying to find a $100 bill on the street, you know it’ll be great when you find it but dammit….when???

I went with Arm n Hammers Essentials for a while but noticed the sting after the shower and redness.  I’m sure it had something to do with me not drying the area completely.  I’ve heard that can be a reason, especially with gels.  The time had come for a change; the time had come for a big cannonball in the natural deodorant pool!

I went with Kiss My Face Active Enzyme-Lavender Deodorant.  To me, the fragrance was lovely.  Lavender is one of my favorite scents when it comes to pretty much anything.  What I started to notice is the work these enzymes were pulling, what was going on?  Could it handle a full days work of massage and the occasional walk for coffee through the disgusting Florida heat?  No, not so much.

Was it my diet or lack of water drinking that was causing such an aromatic disaster with this deodorant??  Of course what you put in has much to do with what comes out.  According to this fanastic article such ideas do exist and make sense!  Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, has put it quite simply.  Read the whole article, it rocks.  He talks about tasting of urine, cleansing foods and dogs sniffing out cancer.  Here’s what I read that peaked particular interest, why?  Because cilantro rules!!!

“That’s because a plant-based diet is an internal deodorizer. It’s true: the chlorophyll and other phytonutrients will cleanse you from the inside out. Some of the best foods for that include parsley, cilantro, celery and all mint species. The aromatic herbs are also excellent: sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and so on.”

Just when you think it boils down to the deodorant it’s so much more than that.  What are you putting in?  I could tell you what my diet has consisted of the past month or so but I don’t want to scare the children.  So my recent trip to the fruit and veggie stand says so much right now…stop trying $9 deodorants.

The $9 culprit is Avalon Organics Deodorant Spray-Grapefruit & Geranium.  The ingredients if you please:

Alcohol, Water, Citrus Grandis, Grapefruit Peel Oil, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Barrosma Betulina (Buchu) Leaf Oil

It’s multiuse could justify the price but my priorities have shifted since my purchase.  If you want to spring for it by all means.  The scents are wonderful, you will get long use out of it and it’s small enough to fit in your purse.  Overall stream of knowledge here, do not rely soley on products…try and work from the inside out.

Thank you both! I’ve been using the spray for about 2 weeks now and I must say, I’m impressed. Figures an $8 deodorant would work :)

Fascinating! I never considered that diet would affect odor, but I guess it makes a lot of sense. I’ll have to remember this..!
